LOCATION OF THE PLACE

ABOUT THE PLACE -

The place is located next to Thiruchchirapalli (TRICHY) on the banks of Kaveri River in Tamilnadu, India. There are air, rail and road links from Chennai, which is internationally connected. River KAVERI starts in Karnataka and travels to Meetur dam. At this point the river splits into two channels, Kollidam and Kaveri. The channels are again merged into a single river after a little distance. This makes SRIRANGAM an island within Kaveri. Some believe this was artificially developed island by Chola Kings. One can see the temple towers from long distances. The periya koil gopuram, the sight itself fills you with immense joy and divine spell.

To reach the place one can take a 45-minute flight from Chennai to TRICHY and ask for SRI RANGAM by taxi. Alternately take any train from Chennai Egmore railway station. Many trains stop at Srirangam. There are about 8-10 trains every day. It takes 6 hours by train from Chennai Egmore. There are also many state transport buses plying from Koyambedu bus station of Chennai. It takes 8 hours to reach the place by bus. Many important towns of Tamilnadu are well connected to TRICHY.

FAMOUS Kulasekharalwar was craving for RANGA YATRA (travel to Srirangam) for years and years. He was the most able king of Chera nadu (malinadu) devoted to Sri Vaishnavism. Every day he used to make all arrangements, but his ministers were giving him problems continuously and ask him to stay back for that day. He composed Mukundamala and he is one of the TWELVE alwars. He is famous for the slogan RANGA YATRA - DINEY DINEY (Everyday I wish to go to Srirangam) and see my Lord Sri Ranganatha. Let the day be today and make your travel plan.
