TIRUPPAN ALWAR - INCARNATION of Sri Vatsa mark (mole) on Lord's chest where Sri Maha Lakshmi resides
This ALWAR appeared as AYONIJA (not born to any mortals) and was brought up by PANAR caste couple (untouchables) in Urayaur near Srirangam. Panar caste people are well known for their sweet voice and songs on Sri Ranganatha. Our ALWAR also grew up in the same environment. In addition he used to hold VEENA (musical instrument PAANA) in his hands and sing pasurams on Lord every day, standing on the banks of KAVERI river. Thus he was known as TIRUPPAN. He spent whole life in that serene atmosphere thinking none else but Lord RANGANATHA, Nam Perumal.

RANGANATHA DARSHAN to The ALWAR

One day the alwar was singing completely mesmerized on the beauty of Lord Ranganatha during dawn. At the same time temple priest Saranga muni came there to take water for Lord. Seeing Thiruppan on the sands of KAVERI, as he was untouchable, shouted that he should give way. Unaware of any worldly disturbances the ALWAR continued singing until Saranga muni threw a small stone at him. The stone hit on his forehead ant started bleeding. Suddenly coming to conscious the ALWAR was afraid that he did APACHARAM (mistake) by not noticing the chief priest and delaying the SEVAI (service) to Lord.

Saranga muni went back to temple with water and when he saw Lord Ranganatha, he noticed blood was coming from the idol's fore head. Terribly afraid the muni pleaded RANGANATHA to show mercy and give the cause for this damage. The LORD spoke and told him TIRUPPAN was his bhakta and he was with the ALWAR in his songs when Saranga muni threw stone at him. Lord has asked Saranga muni to bring ALWAR on his shoulders to His sannidhi and take remedy. Saranaga muni and other priests narrated to the ALWAR their intention. The ALWAR was reluctant to come until they told it was Lord RANGANATHA's order. The priests carried the ALWAR to the SANNIDHI and our ALWAR could see the real God in the Achala moorthy.

AFTER SEEING THE LORD - The ALWAR felt his life ambition was fulfilled and requested to attain His feet. He spontaneously sang TEN pasurams before the Lord. At the tenth pasuram (the end) our THRUPPAN ALWAR sang "Lord RANGANATHA is the Supreme Sovereign of the Whole World and all the residents therein; He, who is of the Black Color and the Nature of (merciful) clouds; who ate the stolen butter with his mouth and his sweet hands; who has stolen my mind and the heart fully; and HAVING LOOKED AND ENJOYED HIS BEAUTY (I swear) my eyes can NOT see and will never see any thing ELSE;" With that excellent pasuram OUR THIRUPPAN ALWAR merged and united with the Lord Sri Ranganathar.
