POIGAI ALWAR - INCARNATION OF PAANCHAJANYAM (DEVINE CONCH / SANKHU)
POIGAI ALWAR IS the FIRST of the Mudal Alwars. Mudal alwars were born (made to appear) on three concecutive days in SIDHDHARTHI year, 7th century A.D. All three babies were made to appear on different flowers. Poigai Alwar was born in Kancheepuram above a Tamarai (lotus) bud in a pond. Poigai Alwar composed 100 paasurams "MUDAL THIRUVANDHADI" . In this style of composition, for every verse the first word is the last word of previous verse. The meaning of these verses is - Lord Narayana is the cause of whole UNIVERSE and I am singing these maalai of verses and dedicated to Him. I had His vision, the light of Lamp of Earth and oil being the Seas and the Sun being the source of the light.

ALL the three mudal alwars appeared above some flower bud due to God's grace. Present day we may not be able to understand how it was possible, but Lord's manifestations are beyond our comprehension. Namm Alwar addressed all the three Alwars as INKAVI PADUM PARAM KAVIGAL, meaning great poets who sang loveliest / sweetest songs. ALL the three not known to each other were singing glories of Lord Srimannarayana and were visiting place of Narayana and having DARSHAN of Lord. At some point Lord Vishnu wanted them together. They reached Thirukkovilur where Lord Vishnu is in form of Vaamana - who measured the entire universe within TWO feet. Due to heavy rain there POIGAI Alwar had to take shelter at a place. After a little while BHUDAT Alwar knocked the place for shelter. Being bhaktha, help was offered by POIGAI Alwar and the same place was shared by TWO persons by sitting. Soon there was another knock and the THIRD PEYA Alwar was there in rain. The first two Alwars offered help to him by adjusting & standing in the same place. They were discussing the attributes of glorious TRIVIKRAMA Sreemannarayana. Suddenly they felt crammed by another person - Lord Srimannarayana Himself.
